I have written extensible about the “official” selection of weather stations they use, how countries and continents just “disappear”, the urban heat island effect, the poor placement of many of these weather stations etc etc.
Now it seems that there has been another ”update” of weather stations at GHCN (Global Historical Climatology Network), the chief “global” historic temperture provider.
They dropped another 484 statione!
This “record” is becoming less and less “global” – It’s a joke.
1597 stations in the 2009 unique station list
1113 stations in the new 2010 unique station list
That’s a drop of 484 stations! Nearly 31%!
Africa – 118
Asia – 137
S America – 62
N&C America – 59
Pacific Reg – 39
Europe – 70
Antarctica – 1
Here are just a few of my posts on this subjecti:
Fore details see:
2010 Thermometer Langoliers Hit List
Oh, and the list is also confirmation that the extraordinary hatred of thermometers shown by the managers of GHCN continues, unabated. Particular emphasis seems to have landed on Africa (already poorly covered) and Asia, with a modest effort to eradicate more of South America. By comparison, Europe is only slightly mauled…
[chiefio@Hummer data]$ wc -l 2009_uniq_station_list
[chiefio@Hummer data]$ wc -l 2010_uniq_station_list
So from 1597 we drop to 1113. That’s a drop of 30%.
Just shy of 1/3 of the stations, taken out back and shot this year.
NOAA langoliers eat another 1/3 of stations from GHCN database
Dallas Fort Worth airport is one of hundreds of GHCN reporting stations gone missing. GHCN stations are becoming an endangered species.
